5 Was to Style a Non-Working Fireplace

Dreaming of a fireplace but don’t have one? Or do you have one that doesn’t function? Take a look at these 5 ways to make your fireplace a focal point even if it’s not working. You can even buy an old mantelpiece and adapt one of these ideas below.

1. Fake It

If you want your fireplace to look like it works even if it doesn't, simply cover the facade with a classic black screen, or make it pop with a decorative screen.

2. Arrange Flowers

When in doubt, blooms are usually the answer. Liven up the drab space with a pretty flower arrangement. For the holidays fill it with great smelling evergreens.

3. Pile Up Birch Logs

Go the classic route and pile logs in your fireplace to give it an inviting and homey feel, even if you can't actually light them on fire. Birch logs are pretty, but you can use any.

4. Light Candles

Placing candles in the space will give it a warm, cozy glow. And they will flicker just like a real fireplace.

5. String Lights

Just because your fireplace doesn't work, doesn't mean it should be in the dark. Fill decorative lanterns with string lights and arrange them inside the fireplace.

Add a scented candle for the full effect. This Firewood candle from Candlewood Candle has a wood wick that crackles and smells like a fireplace. Or for a more outdoorsy feel, try this D.S. & Durga Scented Candle that features scents of pine and cedar.
