7 Ways to Beat the Heat in Baltimore

Temperatures have been scorching this week, and the heat wave continues through the weekend. Here are some ideas for beating the heat in Baltimore this summer.

1. Head to the National Aquarium in Baltimore.

Of course it is air conditioned, but simply being in the dark there feels cooler. Submerge yourself as you follow the ramp down through the shark tanks, or relax in the cool blue of the jellyfish exhibit.

2. Take your dog for a swim.

Does your dog enjoy cooling off as much as you do? There are plenty of places where the two of you can enjoy the water together. My favorite is Gunpowder Falls at Masemore Road. If you’re a history buff, check out the historic mill and wrought iron bridge built there in 1898.

3. Take a trip to an art museum.

Baltimore is home to several outstanding art museums including the American Visionary Arts Museum, The Walters Art Museum, and the Baltimore Museum of Art.

4. Go tubing along the Gunpowder River.

You can do short runs by walking upriver from the Monkton Bike Shop, or drop in anywhere along the river, by leaving a car at your end point.

5. Go to a movie matinee.

Now that theaters are open and the air conditioning is chill, time to take in a matinee during the hottest part of the day!

6. Set up a sprinkler in the yard.

Why should kids get all the fun? Set up a sprinkler in your yard and relax in a beach chair under the spray.

7. Water gun battle!

Have some fun with just your family, or get the entire neighborhood involved. You’ll welcome being the target during this heat wave!
